Atiku Vows to Reopen Nigeria’s Land Borders If Elected President in 2027

Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has pledged to reopen Nigeria’s land borders if elected president in the 2027 general elections.

Atiku made the promise during a Hausa-language interview with the BBC, where he outlined aspects of his economic agenda and plans for the country.

The former Vice President said reopening the land borders would be part of his administration’s approach to improving economic activities and strengthening trade with Nigeria’s neighbouring countries.

Atiku has previously advocated the reopening of Nigeria’s land borders, arguing that freer movement of goods and people across the borders would boost cross-border commerce, investment and economic opportunities.

He also maintained that greater regional trade could contribute to economic growth and improve relations between Nigeria and its neighbours.

The pledge comes as political parties and presidential hopefuls intensify preparations and policy discussions ahead of the 2027 elections.
