Police Conclude Security Deployment, Activate Emergency Line Ahead of Ekiti Governorship Election
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has completed security deployments and operational arrangements for the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, assuring residents of adequate protection and a peaceful voting process.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the police said security personnel and operational assets have been strategically deployed across all 2,545 polling units in the state, as well as critical infrastructure, border communities, major entry and exit routes, and other strategic locations.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, CP Shogule Abayomi, disclosed that the Force had adopted a multi-layered security architecture aimed at ensuring a peaceful, credible and hitch-free election. He noted that security operatives would be on ground to protect voters, election officials, observers and electoral materials throughout the exercise.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, assured the public that all officers deployed for election duty had been adequately briefed on their responsibilities and rules of engagement. He emphasized that personnel would carry out their duties professionally, impartially and in strict compliance with the law.
The police also warned against electoral offences and any actions capable of undermining the integrity of the electoral process, stressing that offenders would be prosecuted in line with the Electoral Act and other applicable laws.
To ensure swift response to security concerns, the Force announced the activation of a dedicated election emergency line, 080062335577, which will remain operational throughout the election period.
The NPF urged eligible voters to participate peacefully in the election without fear or intimidation while cautioning against the spread of false or unverified information that could trigger panic or disrupt public order.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the police assured residents of Ekiti State of a free, fair, credible and peaceful governorship election.
