Plateau Killings: Former Deputy Speaker Ahmed Idris Condemns Rising Violence, Urges Calm
The Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris, has strongly condemned the recent wave of violent attacks across Plateau State, describing them as senseless and a threat to peace and coexistence.
In a statement reacting to the latest killings in Angwan Rukuba on March 29, 2026, Idris expressed deep sadness over the attack by unidentified gunmen which reportedly left multiple people dead. He also decried reprisal attacks in parts of Jos North that have resulted in further loss of lives and missing persons.
The lawmaker extended his condemnation to several other violent incidents across the state, including killings in Zurak and Sabon Gari communities in Wase Local Government Area, attacks in Garga community in Kanam, and the ambush of traders in Pankshin.
He also referenced coordinated attacks in Barkin Ladi and Riyom LGAs, as well as the killing of residents in Miango, Bassa LGA.
Idris further lamented the deadly ambush at Wanka community in Kanam LGA, where 12 soldiers and eight vigilantes were reportedly killed, describing the continued violence as “dastardly acts” that must not be tolerated.
While commending the swift response of security agencies and the Plateau State Government, he specifically praised Governor Caleb Mutfwang for imposing a curfew and initiating investigations into the latest crisis.
He, however, called for more decisive and sustained security efforts across the state, urging authorities to identify and prosecute perpetrators to ensure justice.
The Deputy Speaker also appealed to residents, community leaders, and stakeholders to remain calm and avoid reprisals, warning that retaliation would only worsen the crisis.
“Violence has no place in a sane society. Dialogue, justice, and the rule of law remain the only pathways to lasting peace,” he said.
Idris extended his condolences to victims and their families, reaffirming his solidarity with all those affected by the ongoing violence in Plateau State.
