PDP to Nigerians: We will no longer impose candidates
The Katsina State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has ruled out the imposition of candidates on electorates or party members.
Addressing party stakeholders on Thursday in Katsina, the Chairman of the state arm of the party, Alhaji Salisu Majigiri, said the party would no longer impose unpopular candidates on people.
Magjigiri said, “We have met and discussed the issue of imposing candidates on our members and we realised that our people do not like the idea.
“We have resolved to do away with it and henceforth encourage democratic ways of electing our contestants.
“We have learnt our lesson in the 2015 elections and we are ready to go back to the normal way of selecting candidates through the primaries.
“We are now ready to provide a level playing ground to all our candidates, so as to strengthen the party and move it forward.”
