PDP replies Presidency, says Amina Zakari has conflict of interest
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation (PPCO) on Friday replied the Presidency, saying Amina Zakari has a conflict of interest in Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and as such her participation in the 2019 presidential election can never be impartial.
Amina Zakari was on Wednesday appointed the head of INEC’s National Collation Centre Committee.
Replying the Presidency on Friday, PPCO, in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, said that it is true that President Goodluck Jonathan appointed Zakari, but her tenure has since lapsed.
The Party insisted that her retention in office by her uncle, President Muhammadu Buhari, was meant to serve his electoral interests.
“We insist, without any ambiguity, that Amina Zakari has a conflict of interest in INEC and as such her participation in the 2019 presidential election can never be impartial.
“It is true that President Goodluck Jonathan appointed her but that tenure has since lapsed.
“We hold that her retention in office by her uncle, President Buhari, was meant to serve his electoral interests.
“The Buhari Presidency by claiming that we scored an own goal has confirmed our fears that she will use her office to rig election against our party and candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
“Amina Zakari is not the only commissioner in INEC. We beg to ask, why this fixation on her to collate the result of an election where her uncle is a contender.
“We want to remind the Buhari Presidency that where an arbiter has a conflict of interest, it becomes mandatory to toe the path of recuse.
“We therefore demand that Mrs Amina Zakari recuse herself from INEC’s responsibilities in this election.”
