PDP BoT Accepts Supreme Court Verdict, Declares Party Structure Intact

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed the continuity of the party’s leadership following the Supreme Court judgment delivered on April 30, 2026.

In a press statement signed by its Chairman, Mao Ohuabunwa, the BoT said the ruling upheld earlier decisions of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, which nullified the PDP National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to the BoT, the apex court’s decision makes it clear that the Ibadan convention “stands nullified,” and any leadership structure that emerged from it has no legal standing.

The trustees emphasized their full respect for the judgment, describing the BoT as the “conscience and moral compass” of the party, committed to upholding the rule of law.

Following the ruling, the BoT declared that the party’s leadership under Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu as National Secretary remains the legitimate authority to manage the affairs of the party at the national level.

The statement stressed that the PDP remains functional and will continue to operate through its constitutionally recognized organs, in line with its 2017 amended constitution.

To address internal disputes, the BoT directed the National Working Committee to immediately set up a National Reconciliation Committee to engage aggrieved members across the country.

It also called on party members to remain united, disciplined, and committed to the party’s ideals, assuring that steps would be taken to strengthen unity and prepare for upcoming elections.

“The PDP remains strong, resilient, and committed to its historic mission of providing credible leadership to Nigeria,” the statement added.
