Osun commences screening for 39 commissioners, SAs listed nominees

Towards  Osun State preparation for 2018  gubernatorial election, the State House of Assembly has commenced screening of 39 names, being  proposed by the State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, for commissioners and Special Advisers(SAs), after three years in office.

Sources within the state house informed that  the screening of the nominees began on Monday, barely four weeks after Aregbesola forwarded the names to the appropriate quarters for a proper consideration and approval.

Among the 39 nominees expected to appear before the state house, former commissioner special duties, Dr Ajibola Bashir, may be appointed as attorney-general of the state if he scales through the screening scheduled to end on Thursday.

Meanwhile, an earlier nominees list forwarded to the house by the governor confirmed 19 names contrary to the current 39 who were to undergo screening before the house members for four days.

Despite clamors and protests by opposition parties and groups in the state, pressuring the governor on formation of cabinet, Aregbesola maintained ground and ran the state with his deputy, Titi Laoye-Tomori, the Secretary to the State Government (SS) and Chief of Staff.

However, in 2016, against criticism, Aregbesola disclosed motive behind his refusal for not appointing executive and as well as other aides who were to form his cabinet, claiming that Osun was insolvent.

According to the governor, it would cost the state about N100 million monthly to maintain a cabinet.
