Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday laid the foundation for the 1800 units Emotan Garden estate situated at Egba community, Ikpoba Okha local government area, Benin City.
Similarly, Prof. Osinbajo also visited the Edaiken market, Uselu at Egor local government council to inspect the solar panel light at the shop outlets, said to be at an avoidable price for the shop owners.
The Vice President performed the foundation laying ceremony to the admiration of over two thousand witnesses that included the State governor, Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, former governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Also in attendance was the National Chairman, All Progressives Congress, Chief John Oyegun, representative of Oba of Benin, members of the National Assembly as well as those from the Edo State House of Assembly, and among others.
In his admonition, Prof. Osinbajo, who was in the state for the second time having commissioned the fertiliser plant last year in Auchi, Etsako local government council hereby commended the state government for achieving the feat less than two years in office.
He added that such initiative is worthy of emulation, and that it entailed a visionary leadership to have such project in the state.
Earlier on, governor Obaseki said: “This ground breaking ceremony of Emotan Garden which we hope will be the flagship of creating modern housing for the people in the state. As one can recall during my electioneering campaign in 2016, I made a promise that we are going to make Edo State an economy hub.
“And we promised to create 200,000 jobs in my first time in office, and I am expected that these jobs will be created areas from agriculture, construction and the manufacturing sectors.
“But we have also considered that housing is another key to creating jobs, and that was one of the reasons we have to restructure Edo State Housing and Development Property Agency (EDPA), reenacted the law setting up and brought a new management. This is the evidence of the reforms we have made in that agency.
“Upon signing Memorandum of Understanding with MIXTA Africa in May this year, we quickly identified where we need to build housing. I am very excited and happy that this project is happening today to the glory of the Almighty God.
“This building across the road was left uncompleted, not that we can not do it, but it was built within 12 days and I can tell you that 80% of the materials used in the construction of the building were sourced locally from Edo State.
Meanwhile, the VP next move was to the state ICT hub at Wire Road where he will be addressing the crowd for the town hall meeting, which was still on as at time of this report.
