Oriasotie wins first major trophy at governor’s cup golf tourney

Victor Oriasotie has won his first major trophy as he emerged overall winner at the Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament concluded on Saturday at the Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS), Benin City.
Orasotie (hcp.20), whose adventure into the game of golf teed-off in October 2017 against all odds played 73 net to win the men’s category trophy at the expense of Mayer Ologbosere who also beat Dr. Peter Osagiede on count-back having both recorded 75 net the two-day golf tourney organised in commemoration of Governor Godwin Obaseki second anniversary.
Oriasotie attributed his victory to hard work and determination to win a major trophy exactly a year and two weeks he became a golfer in the club. While he thanked the governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Rt. Hon Philip Shaibu for the leverage given through the tournament.
Governor Obaseki in his admonition promised that the tournament would become a yearly event, while he commended the Dr. Ajayi led committee for organising a befitting tournament of such magnitude within short notice. “In fact they really surpassed my imaginations.”
Also, the chairman of the organising committee, Dr. Charles Ajayi expressed gratitude to the governor, deputy governor for making the tournament part of Alaghodaro event at short notice. He praised the efforts his committee members and other club members for the support given to host the event.
However, Chris Osarunwemse won the special guests event with 83 net, while Nkiruka Awiaka posted 73 net to win the ladies category, as Debby Otabor won the category best gross with 89 gross. Prof. J. Mokwuenye won the ladies veteran with 79 net just as Sandra Emina from UBTH club won the guests ladies cadre with 75 net.
The men’s super veteran award went to Dr. J. Ogbeide with 74 net. Habiibah Oyarekhua and J. Igbinadolor won the ladies and men’s nearest the pin hole 14 respectively. Also, the men’s and ladies longest drive hole 10 went to E. Michael and wife of deputy governor, M. Shaibu.
