Opposition Coalition Applies to INEC for new party registration, unveils All Democratic Alliance
The National Opposition Coalition Group has formally submitted an application to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking registration of a new political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
The coalition, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, submitted its request on June 19. INEC acknowledged receipt of the application on Friday.
The move signals the coalition’s intention to establish an alternative political platform, with an eye on the 2027 general elections. Other influential figures backing the initiative include former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats and former aide to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The application comes shortly after INEC cautioned that no political pressure or public sentiment would override the need for full adherence to constitutional and electoral guidelines.
In a joint letter signed by ADA’s Protem National Chairman, Chief Akin A. Rickets, and Protem National Secretary, Abdullahi Elayo, the group stated:
“We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission, requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, as a political party. This is a sequel to the decision taken by the Nigerian National Coalition Group to sponsor our association for full registration.”
The proposed party’s acronym is ADA, and its slogan is “Justice for All.” Submitted alongside the application were key documents including the party’s constitution, manifesto, logo, and minutes of foundational meetings.
ADA’s symbol, a maize (corn) cob, is intended to reflect the party’s values of abundance, resilience, and sustenance.
“We have further attached our manifesto, detailing our ideological stance, and our constitution, which outlines the party’s legal framework, structures, and organisation,” the letter concluded.
