Ogun Sets Up Taskforce On Illegal LPG Station

A taskforce to check the excesses of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas owners, especially as it relates to their mode of operations, has been set-up in Ogun State.
The State Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, Mrs Ronke Sokefun, made this known at her office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta while addressing journalists on efforts by the ministry to curb operations of illegal businesses in the sector, across the State.
Mrs Sokefun added that the Ministry in collaboration with its Environment counterpart as well as other relevant agencies were determined to ensure that safety standards were upheld by operators in the sector, adding that all owners of liquefied petroleum gas filling stations with government approvals were expected to upgrade their safety measure equipment to meet up with international standards.
While commiserating on behalf of government with the families of those who lost their lives and property in the ill fated fire incident, Sokefun said henceforth no organisation or individual would be allowed to set up gas refilling depot within residential areas.
The State Chairman of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers, Alhaji Sheriff Ogunrinola promised, on behalf of the organisation to abide by the stipulated safety rules and precautions, assuring that seminars and trainings on fire prevention and control would be organised periodically for their members to complement government’s effort in this regard.
