Ogun Govt Denies Backing Any Candidate for Awujale Stool, Suspends Selection Process

The Ogun State Government has distanced itself from circulating rumours claiming that Prince Ademorin Aliu Kuye has been selected as the next Awujale of Ijebuland through an Ifa oracle, insisting it has not endorsed any candidate for the revered traditional stool.

In a press statement issued by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the government described the claims as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard such reports.

According to the statement, the process for selecting and installing a new Awujale is governed by established laws, procedures, and recognised traditional customs, stressing that no informal or unverified method, including oracle consultations, has been approved by the state authorities.

The government further announced that the process to fill the vacant stool has been temporarily suspended following several complaints and petitions surrounding the selection procedure.

It explained that the suspension is necessary to allow for a thorough review aimed at ensuring transparency, legality, and broad acceptance among stakeholders.

Reaffirming its commitment to preserving peace and respecting traditional institutions, the government advised residents and stakeholders to rely only on official communications and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating tension.
