Oba of Benin warns politicians against wasting nation’s resources on politicking

Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, has advised political leaders not to waste the nation’s wealth and resources on politicking, and settlement of quarrels.

The Benin Monarch stressed that instead it should be used to improve the welfare of ordinary Nigerians, adding that if there is no peace and security, there can be no development and comfort in any nation.

He made this call when former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar paid him a courtesy visit in his palace, Benin City recently, where he urged political leaders and indeed politicians to make it a priority to tackle the security challenges confronting Nigeria.

The Royal father attributed the high level of insecurity in the country to under developed economy, porous national boarders and disrespect for traditional values and norms.

“I am advising political leaders not to waste the nation’s wealth and resources on politicking, and settlement of quarrels, instead it should be used to improve the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

The Omo N’Oba frowns particularly at the incessant quarrels and squabbles at the legislative arm of government both at state and federal levels, and called on political leaders to endeavor to present honourable and responsible candidates for elective positions.

His Royal Majesty said as Royal Fathers, they will always pray for all politicians irrespective of their political leanings, pointing out that his wish is for God and the ancestors to produce a political leader who will enhance the welfare of the common man, respect traditional institution and make life better for the people.

In another development, the Oba of Benin also received Prof. Babara Plankensteiner and her entourage with a charge to them to do everything possible to ensure the return of the stolen artefact in their country.

Oba Ewuare II wondered why it has been difficult to return the artefact to its original owner, assuring them that the Palace is much safer than any museum in the world to accommodate the art works.
