No agreement yet with Atiku, Kwankwaso, on 2027 presidency – Peter Obi
The Labour Party’s presidential standard bearer in the 2023 elections, Mr Peter Obi, said he had yet to forge a pact with Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso for the 2027 presidency.
Obi, at a press conference in Abuja, stated that there was currently no merger agreement between the Labour Party and any other opposition political party.
Obi’s statement comes amid speculation that the Labour Party had entered into a merger deal with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
While he didn’t confirm or deny the existence of merger talks, Obi emphasised that there was “no agreement yet”.
Obi, who spoke on the state of the nation, appealed to all Nigerians, regardless of their political affiliations, to unite and work together to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said he believed the APC had mismanaged the country’s resources.
Obi also expressed concerns over Nigeria’s security situation.
He criticised the current administration’s handling of corruption and the economy.
He described the security situation as “unfortunate” and faulted the government’s claims of fighting corruption.
He said that the level of corruption in Nigeria remained high.
The Labour Party candidate’s statement was likely to spark further debate and speculation about the 2027 presidential elections, which, he said, were still over a year away.
