NNPC Foundation Launches Second Phase of Farmers’ Training Programme in Northern Nigeria
As part of its continued efforts to bolster food security, drive economic empowerment, and support national development, the NNPC Foundation — the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of NNPC Ltd. — has expanded its Vulnerable Farmers Training Programme to Northern Nigeria.
This rollout marks the second phase of the initiative, following the successful implementation in the South-East, South-South, and South-West regions, where over 4,000 farmers were trained in modern agricultural practices and strategies to improve market access.
The Northern leg of the programme will cover the North East, North West, and North Central geopolitical zones. Training sessions are planned across six selected states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The programme is aimed at transforming subsistence agriculture into sustainable and profitable ventures. It focuses on practical skills including climate-smart farming, organic fertilization, post-harvest loss prevention, and market linkage strategies.
Speaking at the flag-off of the first phase in Nsukka, Enugu State, Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, highlighted the initiative’s alignment with the Federal Government’s agricultural transformation agenda.
“At NNPC Ltd, we recognize that agriculture remains the backbone of livelihoods for over 70% of Nigerians. However, many farmers lack access to the knowledge, tools, and markets necessary to thrive beyond subsistence. This programme aims to bridge that gap,” Arukwe said.
She added that the core objective is to empower farmers with the skills and resources needed to transition into commercial-scale farming, ultimately contributing to Nigeria’s broader food security and economic goals.
With this latest phase, the NNPC Foundation continues its commitment to inclusive development, aiming to uplift rural communities and create long-term impact through agriculture-driven empowerment.
