NNPC Foundation Donates State-of-the-Art MRI Machine to Dala Orthopaedic Hospital in Kano
The NNPC Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of NNPC Limited, has commissioned and handed over a fully installed state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system to the National Orthopaedic Hospital (NOH), Dala, Kano State, in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving access to advanced diagnostic services.
The intervention is part of NNPC Ltd.’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure across Nigeria and is expected to significantly improve the diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic, neurological, trauma, musculoskeletal and gynaecological conditions.

Prior to the donation, patients requiring advanced MRI diagnostic services often faced difficulties, including long-distance travel, extended waiting periods and delays in receiving care due to limited availability and high costs.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held at the hospital in Kano on Thursday, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., represented by the Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, said the initiative aligns with the company’s broader objective of contributing strategically to national healthcare development.
She noted that NNPC Limited remains committed to ensuring that its social investments are impactful, sustainable and beneficial to communities across the country.
“At NNPC Limited, we are intentional about ensuring that our social investments are impactful, sustainable, and beneficial to the communities we serve. Through the NNPC Foundation, we will continue to implement interventions that create measurable social value across Nigeria,” she said.
According to her, the donation comes at a critical time when Nigeria’s healthcare sector faces infrastructure deficits, equipment limitations and increasing demand for specialised medical services.
Also speaking, the Executive Vice President, Business Services, NNPC Ltd., Mrs. Sophia Mbakwe, represented by the Executive Director, Programme Management, NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Rose Okonkwo, said the company’s mission extends beyond crude oil production to positively impacting lives and strengthening national institutions.
She stated that the MRI project demonstrates NNPC Limited’s dedication to delivering measurable and sustainable interventions, particularly for underserved and vulnerable communities.
“By this intervention, NNPC Limited aims to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve the quality of life of the people of Kano State, the North-West geopolitical zone and all Nigerians who depend on the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala for specialised medical care,” she said.
Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, commended NNPC Foundation for the donation, describing it as a major milestone that would enhance healthcare services in the region through early and accurate diagnosis.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Isa Nurudeen, also expressed appreciation to NNPC Ltd., noting that the MRI machine would have a transformative impact on the hospital’s operations and healthcare services.
The event attracted representatives of NNPC Ltd., hospital management and staff, government officials, healthcare professionals, community leaders and other stakeholders.
