FCT Police Arrest Suspected Kidnappers Seen in Viral Video Brandishing AK-47 Rifles

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers featured in a viral video in which armed men were seen openly displaying AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and walkie-talkies while dressed in military camouflage.

Confirming the arrests, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, said he immediately ordered a comprehensive forensic investigation after receiving the viral video and photographs circulating on social media.

According to the police chief, digital forensic analysis and actionable intelligence led to a coordinated operation by operatives of the FCT Police Command’s VCRU Sector 5 and personnel from the Zuba Division, under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Ogu Caleb Ikechukwu.

The operation was carried out at Runji Village in Zuba on May 25 at about 3:22 a.m., resulting in the arrest of three suspects identified as Umar Babangida, 25; Adamu Yeti, 22; and Yahaya Idris, 24. All three are residents of Rijana in Kaduna State.

Sanusi disclosed that investigations revealed the suspects had previously been in possession of the AK-47 rifles seen in the viral footage. The weapons were allegedly supplied by their gang leader, identified only as “Esco,” who remains at large.

Further investigation led to the recovery of additional videos and photographs from the suspects’ mobile phones. The materials reportedly showed the suspects dressed in military camouflage, carrying walkie-talkies, and posing with AK-47 rifles.

The Commissioner of Police said the suspects remain in custody and are undergoing further investigation. He added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang leader and other members of the criminal network, as well as recover the firearms used by the group.

The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to tackling criminal activities across the territory and urged residents to continue providing timely information to assist security agencies in their operations.
