Nnaji: Stepping Down from Tinubu’s Cabinet Was a Personal Choice
Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has explained that his decision to resign from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet was not an admission of guilt, but a personal and principled step taken in the interest of due process.
In a statement released in Abuja, Nnaji said he voluntarily stepped aside to allow the legal system to address allegations of certificate forgery brought against him.
Nnaji, who joined the cabinet in August 2023, resigned earlier this week following media reports accusing him of falsifying his academic qualifications. He dismissed the claims as a “deliberate, politically motivated smear campaign” intended to damage his reputation.
He noted that the wave of misinformation had caused him emotional distress and hindered his ability to perform his duties effectively.
“For more than fifty years, I have upheld values rooted in hard work, integrity, and service to humanity,” Nnaji said. “It would be unfair to let these baseless claims overshadow the positive vision of the Tinubu administration.”
He reiterated that his resignation was guided by principle rather than pressure, describing it as a show of respect for the rule of law and a commitment to protecting the integrity of government institutions.
“My decision to resign is not a confession of guilt but a personal act of conscience,” he stated. “It reflects my faith in due process and my determination to let justice take its natural course.”
Expressing optimism about the outcome of the case, Nnaji concluded, “Truth always stands the test of time, and in the end, justice will prevail.”
