Kwankwaso Condemns Attack On Obi’s Convoy

….Demands Prosecution Of Perpetrators

Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has condemned the reported attack on the convoy of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi while travelling to Benue State.

Kwankwaso described the incident as “another dark day for our democracy,” alleging that unruly elements were deliberately mobilised to block and attack Obi’s convoy and prevent him from entering Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

In a statement, Kwankwaso stressed that the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to freedom of movement, adding that the right applies to Obi as a former governor and leading opposition figure.

He called on the Benue State Government to urgently identify and prosecute those responsible for the incident.

Kwankwaso also urged the state government to guarantee the safety and free movement of Obi and members of his entourage.

He further appealed to President Bola Tinubu to caution state governors, particularly those elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), against actions capable of undermining democratic principles.

The former Kano governor also called on the international community, including diplomatic missions and election observation organisations, to take note of the incident.

He urged them to press Nigerian authorities to uphold the rule of law, protect opposition leaders and safeguard democratic freedoms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
