Nizamiye Hospital: Money is not our priority but we are open to help people- Medical Director Says
Prof İbrahim yanmış, the Chief Medical Director of Nizamiye Hospital, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has revealed that the main priority of the hospital is not money, but to offer help to people who are in dire need.
Professor Yanmis stated this during a recent national television programme, ‘Good Morning Nigeria’ monitored in Abuja, declaring that the management of the Abuja based hospital has a policy of helping people who are in dire need, and that they are ready to help at all time.
It could be recalled that Nizamiye Hospital has raised the standard of hospitality in Nigeria by recorded breakthrough in the area of premature babies, performing life saving surgery such as cardiac and brain surgery effectively.
Also at the programme with the Medical Director were the Consultant Paediatric, Dr. Lawan Musa Tahir and Director of Operations, Mohammed Abubakar.
In his response at the interview segment, Prof. Yanmis noted that the hospital has been given high and quality medical service in Abuja for more than 10 years, adding that they have increased services and focusing especially in some special problems such as cardiac problem, neo-natal and surgery.
He affirmed that at the hospital, they have three international cardiologists in full time basis giving services 24 hours and seven days, saying that in case of any cardiac issue, they can reach out to their consultant anytime while lab is ready with all the team.
“We believe that everybody needs to have high quality medical care, so our target is to improve every year because medical sector involves improving everyday. It is a difficult job but we focus on having high quality doctors by spending lots of money.
“We are bringing in new cardiovascular surgeon from Spain, a very high quality doctor doing all kind of surgery, but it’s not cheap, too expensive for the hospital. We believe that if we bring this kind of doctor here and give them high quality equipment, we can improve the quality of medical service and people don’t need to go outside the country for medical treatment again.”
Similarly, Dr. Tahir on his own part explained the quality of medical services being rendering at Nizamiye Hospital, stating that they have three full time consultant paediatricians and two part time consultant, making five available round the clock.
“We have all the gadgets required for babies especially for pre-term babies that will enable them to take through all the requirements,” he said.
While responding to the reason why referring the hospital for women to have babies, he said: “They will have first contact with the gynaecologist, so she won’t have to wait for hours before seeing specialist. That specialist will map out the management of that patient and follow up by younger doctors who will help in administering this medication.
“What that means is that the decision time is so short and ability to pick any abnormality will not be very high in her first contact, all the risks issue will be identified and a plan on how to go about it, how to sail through will be already on ground. Even to extent of what kind of delivery is she likely going to have, what kind of care her baby is likely going to have. These decisions can be made in less than three hours.”
Similarly, the director of operations, Abubakar emphasised on what makes Nizamiye Hospital the best in terms of medical services in the country. “We have good doctors, equipment, good operating system. Before we started the hospital over a decade ago, we sat down and look at the structure that drives the hospital to the next level.
“The hospital started with 11 clinics but can now boast of 48 clinics. Secondly, in terms of staffing, we don’t actually relax on that as we look at the areas from time to time to improve.”
