NIS Graduates 1,626 Officers
… Demands Professionalism in Border Security
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has graduated 1,626 officers from its Fourth Combined and Upgrading Course, 2026, with the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, urging them to deploy professionalism, technology and sound judgment in tackling emerging border-security and migration challenges.
The officers passed out during a ceremony held at the Immigration Training School, Kano, and the Digital Bridge Institute, marking one of the Service’s largest training exercises and reinforcing its drive to strengthen operational capacity through continuous professional development.
Nandap, represented by the Assistant Comptroller-General in charge of Human Resources Management, Samuel Agba, said the changing nature of border management required officers to combine statutory responsibilities with technological competence and a commitment to professional standards.
She congratulated the graduating officers and charged them to uphold professionalism in the discharge of their duties, stressing that technology remained a critical enabler in addressing contemporary challenges in border security and migration management.
The Comptroller-General reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to continuous training, upgrading and the welfare of its personnel, describing human-capital development as essential to building an effective and responsive immigration service.
The Commandant of the Immigration Training School, Kano, CIS AN Akuneme, said the number of cadets mobilised for the course was unprecedented in the history of the institution.
He urged the officers to adapt to the evolving dynamics of border management by facilitating legitimate migration flows while preventing irregular migration and trans-border threats.
According to him, the training was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to respond effectively to the complex demands of modern immigration administration.
The ceremony featured merit awards for outstanding participants, while its high point was the commissioning of an ultra-modern market constructed by the course participants.
Representatives of various security agencies, as well as serving and retired senior officers of the NIS, attended the event.
The graduation comes as the Service continues to place emphasis on professional training and technological advancement as tools for strengthening Nigeria’s border governance and migration-management framework.
