NIMC Cautions Against Using Multiple Browsers for NIN Self-Service Portal
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has advised Nigerians to avoid using different browsers or devices when accessing its National Identification Number (NIN) self-service modification portal.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Commission’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, NIMC warned that each user’s self-service account is specifically linked to the browser and device used during the initial registration process. Switching to a different browser or device could result in the user being locked out of their account.
“Your self-service account is uniquely associated with the browser and device used during setup,” Adegoke explained. “To modify your NIN record, you must log in with the same browser and device originally used. Using a different browser or clearing your browser cache can trigger a reset, potentially locking you out of your account.”
He further noted that once an account is locked, the user is allowed a maximum of five unlock attempts. Exceeding this limit will prevent any further access recovery requests from being processed.
These security protocols, according to NIMC, are intended to protect users’ identities and enhance data safety on the portal.
The Commission urged all users to strictly adhere to the guidelines to avoid delays and complications when using the portal.
“For any issues or further assistance, users can reach out to our support team via email at nimccustomercare@nimc.gov.ng,” the statement concluded.
