Nigeria Set to Launch Nationwide Integrated Immunisation Campaign in October

Measles-Rubella Vaccine to Be Introduced for the First Time
The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with national and international health partners, is gearing up to launch a nationwide Integrated Immunization Campaign in October 2025, aimed at strengthening protection against multiple vaccine-preventable diseases.
In a landmark move, the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine will be introduced for the first time across the country as part of this campaign — a major milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to eliminate childhood diseases and improve public health outcomes.
The campaign will also include the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), and other essential vaccines, targeting children and adolescents who are eligible for immunization.
Who Should Get Vaccinated?
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring their eligible children and wards to designated immunization centers to receive:
- Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine – For protection against measles and rubella, two highly contagious viral infections.
- HPV vaccine – Primarily for girls aged 9–14 years, to protect against cervical cancer caused by the human papillomavirus.
- Polio vaccine – To maintain progress toward polio eradication in Nigeria.
- Other routine vaccines – Based on the child’s age and immunization status.
Why It Matters
This integrated approach allows families to access multiple life-saving vaccines at once, reducing missed opportunities for immunization and increasing coverage nationwide. The campaign will be conducted in both urban and rural areas, with outreach teams mobilized to reach underserved communities.
Health authorities have assured the public of the safety and efficacy of all vaccines being administered, and are urging community leaders, schools, and civil society organizations to help mobilize support and awareness.
Call to Action
“This campaign is an opportunity to protect our children from preventable diseases that still claim lives and limit potential,” said a spokesperson from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA). “We urge all parents to take full advantage of this free and nationwide exercise.”
Further details on specific dates, vaccination posts, and eligibility criteria will be announced by local health authorities in the coming weeks.
Don’t miss this opportunity. Protect your child. Vaccinate.
