Nigeria, Niger Republic resolve to fight terrorism, other crimes

The international security meeting held in Maradi has ended with an eleven points communique.

The meeting reiterated the determination of Governors from Nigeria to join forces with their counterparts in Niger Republic to continue with the ongoing fight against terrorism and other organised crimes in the two countries.

Participants commended the excellent relationship, friendship and cooperation existing between the two countries under the leadership of President Muhammad Buhari and president Issoufou Muhammad.

The meeting also commended the renewed efforts of the four Governors in curtailing the menace of bandits in their various states.

The Governors also commended the adopted unified and coordinated approach against insurgency and other forms of armed banditry.

The meeting further observed with serious concerns the proliferation of arms, ammunition, hard drugs and calls for intensification to curb their menace in the two countries.

The Governors appreciated the conflict resolution mechanisms as started by the three Governors from Nigeria.

The meeting appealed for brotherly love and support to continue to be extended to refugees from Nigeria by the government of Maradi.

The Governors also commended the support and donation of relief materials to victims of banditry attacks by the Dangote Foundation and other humanitarian organizations in Maradi.

The meeting resolved to consult with the central government in Nigeria with regards to Olaniyanongoing closure of the border.

Before the signing of the communique, the Governors took time off to inspect the ongoing construction of a referral hospital in Maradi.
