Nigeria Confirms US Security Cooperation After Airstrikes on Terrorist Targets in North West

The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed ongoing security and intelligence cooperation with the United States following recent precision airstrikes on terrorist positions in the North West region of the country.

In a press release issued by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa spokesperson Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Nigerian authorities remain actively engaged in structured security collaboration with international partners, including the United States, to address the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism.

According to the ministry, the cooperation has contributed to successful precision air operations targeting terrorist enclaves in the North West, a region that has faced sustained attacks from armed groups linked to terrorism and banditry.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria confirms that Nigerian authorities remain engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America, in addressing the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism,” the statement read. “This has led to precision hits on terrorist targets in Nigeria by air strikes in the North West.”

The ministry explained that the partnership operates within established international practice and bilateral agreements, encompassing intelligence sharing, strategic coordination and other forms of support consistent with international law and mutual respect for national sovereignty.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to the protection of civilians, the government stressed that all counter-terrorism operations are guided by the need to safeguard lives, preserve national unity and uphold the rights and dignity of all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity.

“Terrorist violence in any form—whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or other communities—remains an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security,” the statement added.

The Federal Government said it would continue to work closely with its international partners to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, prevent cross-border threats and strengthen Nigeria’s domestic security and intelligence capabilities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured Nigerians that it would sustain engagement with relevant partners and keep the public informed through official channels as counter-terrorism efforts continue.
