A non governmental organization the center for leadership, strategy and development center LSD has called on government to ensure the gap in the educational sector in the northern part of the country is bridged.
The founding executive director Dr.  Otive Igbuzor said the center has conducted a research on the effectiveness of affirmative action policies with the intention to ensure it’s impact and implementation ” No doubt, the policy of federal character or quota in Nigeria was developed to address the problem of education imbalance and close the gap between educationally advanced and Disadvantaged states “.
Igbuzor made this statement during a national conference on education equity in Abuja.
He added that with the affirmative action policies governmental will ensure proper implementation ” we hope that with this research and finding further policies will help to improve Nigerians Educational system “.
Meanwhile prof John Boye Ejobowah from the department of Global studies Canada said the affirmative action policy can only work if government focus on basic education from primary to secondary education by providing the schools and the resources “
He added that it is not enough for parents to comply alone but government policies has to be deliberate and well planned ” we don’t have the department of child services here that ensures that parents are responsible and looking after their kids making sure they are in class when they should be therefore government has to address that area, who are those employing children who are suppose to be in school should be punished “.
Ejobowah also stressed that government should ensure compliance to the act, ensuring schools are provided and resources for primary and secondary schools are provided.
