Kwara Declares Tuesday Public Holiday for Hijrah 1448 AH
The Kwara State Government has declared Tuesday, 16 June, as a public holiday to mark the commencement of the 1448 Islamic New Year.
A statement signed by the Commissioner for Communications, Mrs Bolanle Olukoju, on behalf of the Kwara State Government, said Tuesday signifies the first day of Muharram, the opening month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
The statement issued on Monday, the state government urged Muslims to reflect on the broader significance of the Hijrah, noting that its lessons extend beyond the Muslim community to humanity at large.
It described Hijrah, the migration of the Holy Prophet Muhammad( SAW), as a timeless reminder of the values of tolerance, shared humanity, and the right of individuals to pursue legitimate aspirations, whether in matters of faith or daily life, provided they do not harm others.
It added that, as the new Islamic year begins, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq prayed for divine blessings upon all households, peace across the state, and the strength for citizens to act justly towards one another.
