Breaking: Suspected terrorists torch Police Station in Ondo Community, residents flee in panic

Suspected terrorists have attacked and set ablaze a police station in Ipele community, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, sparking widespread panic among residents on New Year’s Day.

Afrika Eyes gathered that the attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, January 1, 2026, when armed assailants stormed the police facility. Witnesses said the attackers opened fire before setting the station on fire, causing fear and confusion across the community.

The violent assault reportedly forced many residents to flee their homes and seek safety in nearby areas, as tension spread rapidly following the invasion.

A video obtained by Afrika Eyes shows the police station engulfed in flames, while gunshots could be heard in the background. Several vehicles parked within the station’s premises were also seen burning during the attack.

As of the time of filing this report, it could not be independently confirmed whether any lives were lost or if there were casualties resulting from the incident.

However, individuals believed to be police officers were later seen at the scene, assessing the damage and inspecting the remains of the station after the attackers had fled.

The Ondo State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident, as residents continue to express concern over the deteriorating security situation in the area.
