NADCEL 2026: Fallen Heroes’ Patriotism Inspires Troops

….COAS Charges Soldiers to Stay Courageous

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has said the patriotism, selfless service and courage of Nigeria’s fallen heroes remain a lasting source of inspiration for officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army.


The COAS made the remark during the Interdenominational Church Service held on Sunday at the All Saints Protestant Church, Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja, as part of activities marking the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026.


Represented by the Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General Maxwell Dangana, General Shaibu described the church service as one of the key events commemorating the Nigerian Army’s 163rd anniversary.

He said the occasion was dedicated to honouring the sacrifices and unwavering commitment of fallen heroes who laid down their lives in service to the nation.


The Army Chief commended troops for their dedication and sacrifices in various operational theatres across the country, urging them to remain courageous, disciplined and professional in the discharge of their duties.


Earlier, in his sermon, the Director of Chaplain Services (Roman Catholic), Brigadier General Francis Maimagani, encouraged officers and soldiers to remain faithful in serving God and humanity through their military vocation.

He also urged personnel to remain steadfast and courageous in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.


The service was attended by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), represented by Major General Henry Wesley (retd), representatives of the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, Principal Staff Officers from the Defence and Service Headquarters, senior serving and retired officers, members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association, the Soldiers’ Wives Association, as well as other dignitaries.
