NABTEB Exam: 31,712 Candidates Record Credit Pass in English, Maths

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) on Tuesday said a total of 31,712 out of 58,448 candidates that sat for its National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations recorded credit pass in English Language and Mathematics.

NABTEB Registrar, Prof. Ifeoma Mercy Isuigo-Abanihe disclosed this while announcing the release of the May/June 2017 examination results in Benin City, adding that the figure represented 58.75 percent of the total candidates that sat for the examination.

She said “A total of 58,448 candidates sat for the examination out of which 31,712 candidates scored five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics representing 58.75 percent while 47,360 scored five credit and above with or without English language and mathematics representing 82.53 percent,”

In another development, she noted that 1,905 candidates were involved in the examination mal-practice, which according to her represents a marginal reduction from the figures of previous year’s examination.

However, the Registrar called for the implementation of 30 to 70 percent admission ratio in favour of Technical and Vocational Education in the admission of students to Federal Sciences and Technical Colleges.

Also, she urged all tiers of government to collaborate with NABTEB in provision of skill empowerment for youths certified through its various skill-oriented certificates while clamouring for partnership between the public and private sectors in promoting technical education citing poor attitude toward technical education and the discrimination between HND and BSC responsible for poor enrollment.
