‘My Name Has Been Cleared’: Diezani Reacts as UK Court Acquits Her

Former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke, has been acquitted of all charges brought against her by a court in the United Kingdom, bringing an end to a protracted legal battle that lasted more than a decade.

In a statement issued on Tuesday following the verdict at the Southwark Crown Court in London, Allison-Madueke expressed relief and gratitude after being cleared of all allegations.

“Today, at Southwark Crown Court, I was acquitted of all charges brought against me,” she said, describing the case as an ordeal that had weighed heavily on her and her family for 11 years.

The former minister said the judgment marked the end of “a decade of unrelenting and unjust vilification, condemnation, and scrutiny,” adding that she had received complete vindication.

Allison-Madueke thanked her legal team for their diligence and praised her family and friends for standing by her throughout the lengthy proceedings.
“I am profoundly relieved. My name has been cleared, and this ordeal has come to an end,” she stated.

While celebrating the verdict, the former minister indicated that she would speak further about the experience in the future and outline her next steps.
“This, however, is not the final chapter. In due course, I shall address this difficult period in greater detail and share my intentions for the future,” she said.

For now, Allison-Madueke said she intends to enjoy the freedom that she believes was unjustly denied to her during the years-long legal process.

The ruling brings a significant chapter in the former minister’s legal troubles to a close, following years of investigations and court proceedings in the United Kingdom.
