Minister disowns ‘Malagi 2027’ write-up, suspends aide

The Office of the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has distanced itself from a write-up titled “Malagi 2027”, which speculated on permutations for the 2027 Niger State gubernatorial election.

In a statement issued on behalf of the minister by his Special Assistant (Media), Rabiu Ibrahim, the ministry said the article was written by an aide, Sa’idu Enagi, without the knowledge, approval, or direction of the minister, stressing that both the write-up and its contents are “vehemently disclaimed.”

According to the statement, the minister remains fully focused on his official duties overseeing the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and has no interest in political distractions or premature electioneering discussions.

“The general public is advised to disregard the write-up in its entirety, as the Honourable Minister neither directed nor approved the publication,” the statement said.

The minister has also ordered an immediate investigation into the matter, while the aide responsible for the publication has been issued a letter of suspension with immediate effect.

The statement further emphasized the cordial and mutually beneficial relationship between the minister and the Governor of Niger State, His Excellency Mohammed Umaru Bago, noting that any speculation about the 2027 elections could undermine ongoing efforts aimed at the development and stability of the state.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to responsible communication and assured the public that appropriate measures are being taken to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.
