Alleged impeachment plot deepens rift between Abba Yusuf and Kwankwaso

Tensions within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State have reportedly escalated following allegations of an impeachment plot against Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

According to an insider within the NNPP camp, the widening rift between Governor Yusuf and the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, stems from claims that Kwankwaso allegedly mobilised members of the Kano State House of Assembly in a bid to impeach the governor.

The source disclosed that the alleged move has significantly strained relations between both political heavyweights, who were once close allies in Kano’s political landscape. The development is said to have fuelled mistrust within the party’s ranks, further complicating internal cohesion in the state.

While details of the alleged impeachment attempt remain unclear, the source noted that the situation has heightened tensions within the NNPP, with loyalists on both sides adopting hardened positions.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Governor Yusuf nor Senator Kwankwaso has publicly responded to the allegation. Efforts to reach official spokespersons for both parties were unsuccessful.

The unfolding disagreement is being closely watched by political observers, who warn that a prolonged crisis could have far-reaching implications for governance and the stability of the NNPP in Kano State.
