Mbah didn’t win Enugu Governorship Election, says Ex-Sambo aide

Former spokesman to ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, Umar Sani, has claimed that Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, did not legitimately win the 2023 governorship election in the state.

Sani made the remark while reacting to Mbah’s recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Sani maintained that the PDP remains firm despite a series of defections, insisting that the movement of some members was being engineered by “fifth columnists.”

“Mbah’s defection will not rattle the PDP because he is swimming against the tide. In fact, he did not even win the election,” he declared.

Mbah, in his defection speech, said his move to the APC was driven by his desire to pursue a visionary partnership that would accelerate development in Enugu State and the nation. He expressed optimism that the APC platform would provide greater opportunities for collaboration and growth.

It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mbah winner of the 2023 Enugu governorship election with 160,895 votes against Labour Party’s Chijioke Edeoga, who scored 157,552 — a margin of about 3,300 votes.

Edeoga and his supporters rejected the result, alleging irregularities and over-voting, particularly in Nkanu East Local Government Area.
