Mass sack looms in Daily Trust Newspaper as over 70% of its work force to go

The Board of Directors, Daily Trust Newspaper, is set to reduce its workforce by 70% as it has declared that any staff who have spent ten years and above should resign.

Investigations revealed that the board took the decision during their last meeting.

According to source close to one of the senior board member, the decision was taken to reduce the wage bill of the company.

It was gathered that the Chief Operating Officer of the company, Mr Abhay Desai an Indian man have been given the mandate to inform staff of the company about the latest development.

Part of the decision was that the affected staff has been given till next year to tender their resignation letter, and staff who have reached ten years and above in service but fail to comply will forfeit his or her entitlement.

But if such staff resigns between the stipulated time, he or she will be paid entitlement. And if such staff wishes to continue work, he or she will have to re-apply as casual staff.

When our correspondent visits the Utako Head office of the media house, staff was seeing discussing in hush voice with displeasure on their faces.

Efforts to get any of the directors for comment prove abortive as none of them was on seat.
