Malami seeks transfer of alleged corruption case from EFCC, alleges personal vendetta

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has called for the transfer of his alleged corruption case from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to another government enforcement agency, citing what he described as a personal vendetta by the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede.

Malami, who is under investigation by the anti-graft agency, said the EFCC chairman lacks the impartiality required to handle the case, alleging that Olukoyede is persecuting him over the Justice Salami Report.

According to Malami, the report, which was released during his tenure as Attorney-General, allegedly indicted Olukoyede, who at the time served as Secretary of the EFCC. He argued that this development has created a conflict of interest, making it impossible for the EFCC leadership to objectively oversee investigations involving him.

The former minister maintained that his request is not an attempt to evade accountability but a call for fairness and due process. He insisted that any investigation into his activities should be handled by an agency free from personal bias or perceived conflict.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has yet to officially respond to Malami’s allegations or his demand for the reassignment of the case.

The development adds a new twist to the ongoing scrutiny of former public officials, as anti-corruption agencies continue to intensify efforts to probe allegations of misconduct in public office.
