Makinde Faces Criticism Over Absence as Oriire Kidnap Victims Regain Freedom
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has come under criticism on social media following reports that he was in Bauchi State when the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire regained their freedom after spending 54 days in captivity.
A commentator, reacting to the development, described the governor’s absence at the time of the rescue as “ironic,” questioning why he was away from the state during what many consider a significant moment for Oyo.
The critic further urged associates of the governor to advise him to reassess his political strategy, warning that his actions could diminish his relevance in Yorubaland if not properly managed.
The remarks concluded by stating that “people are writing history,” suggesting that political leaders are being judged by their responses to critical events affecting their states.
The rescued victims, comprising 39 schoolchildren and seven teachers, were freed during a joint operation by security agencies after 54 days in captivity. The successful rescue has drawn widespread commendation from President Bola Tinubu and other stakeholders.
