Maitama Sule: We lost diplomat of international ‎repute- Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, in Kano, said that Nigeria had lost a diplomat of international repute with the death of an elder statesman Maitama Sule.

‎Abubakar, who made this remark when he paid a condolence visit to Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State,  stressed that Maitama’s death was a great loss to Kano and the country at large.‎

He said that the late Maitama participated in all the pre- independence activities that gave birth to Nigeria.

“We lost a ‎diplomat of international repute and one of the Nigeria’s greatest men, who ever lived because of his versatility and international connection and contributions,” he said.

‎He said that the former diplomat was a complete gentleman and a good citizen, who dedicated his life to the unity of Nigeria.‎‎

“We hope and pray that Kano will produce another Maitama because of the role he played ‎in the unity and progress of the country.

‎”I offer my condolences to the family he left behind, to Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje and the good people of Kano State and Nigerians in general,” he said.

Responding, Ganduje described the deceased as simple, friendly and someone, who carried everybody along, irrespective of differences.‎

He said that the late Maitama, never relented in building bridges of friendship, peace and love among Nigerians.

‎The governor, therefore, thanked the former Vice President for the condolence visit and wished him a safe journey. (NAN)‎
