Lere Olayinka Urges Governors to Emulate Fayose’s Approach to Insecurity

Lere Olayinka, an aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has cited the security measures adopted by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, as a model for tackling insecurity, particularly in the South-West region.
In a statement shared on social media, Olayinka recalled that during Fayose’s administration, the state faced threats from kidnappers but took decisive actions without waiting for intervention from the Federal Government.
According to him, Fayose mobilised local hunters, security operatives, and soldiers to combat criminal activities. He also enacted laws banning open grazing in Ekiti State, a move he said helped regulate the activities of herders and improve security.
Olayinka recounted an incident involving the killing of a pregnant woman at the Orin Ekiti Farm Settlement, alleging that a son of a Fulani community leader, identified as Alhaji Abache, was accused of involvement in the crime.
He claimed that Fayose summoned stakeholders, including Fulani leaders, to the Government House and directed Alhaji Abache to produce his son within one week or leave the state. According to Olayinka, the suspect was produced within three days.
The former media aide argued that addressing insecurity requires strong leadership at the state level and insisted that governors should be held accountable for security challenges within their jurisdictions.
“Like I have maintained, we can keep playing politics of emotions and sentiments with this issue of insecurity, especially in the South-West. When we are ready, we will hold our governors accountable,” Olayinka stated.
