Kogi Central Christian Group Commends Ododo, Seeks Greater Political Inclusion
A coalition of Christian youths in Kogi Central Senatorial District has praised Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for what it described as significant developmental strides, while appealing for increased political representation of Christians in the area.
In an open letter dated April 29, 2026, and addressed to the governor, the group—Ebira Christian Youths in Politics—commended the administration’s efforts in infrastructure development, healthcare revitalisation, education, security, and youth empowerment.
The group noted that within a short period in office, the governor had demonstrated purposeful leadership through projects impacting communities across the state, particularly in Kogi Central. It also acknowledged what it described as the governor’s inclusive style of governance and commitment to fairness across religious and ethnic lines.
Despite the commendation, the group expressed concern over what it called the persistent underrepresentation of Christians in elective and appointive positions in Kogi Central. It listed key offices such as the House of Representatives, Kogi State House of Assembly, commissioner roles, and local government positions where it believes Christians have not been adequately represented.
The group emphasised that Christians in the district have consistently contributed to political processes through voting, mobilisation, and participation in elections, and therefore deserve equitable inclusion in governance.
As part of its appeal, the group urged Governor Ododo to support the emergence of qualified Christian candidates in future elections, particularly for legislative seats, and to ensure fair consideration in appointments at both state and local government levels.
It also called for a balanced distribution of political opportunities across religious lines to enable broader participation in governance and ensure that no group feels marginalised.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity, and development in Kogi State, pledging continued support for the administration and expressing confidence in the governor’s sense of justice and fairness.

The Christian population in Kogi Central has consistently demonstrated commitment to peace, development, and active participation in the political process. Our sons and daughters vote, campaign, mobilize, and contribute meaningfully to the success of every election in the state.
However, we have observed with concern that in previous and current dispensations, Christians in Kogi Central have been largely underrepresented in elective and appointive positions, particularly in the offices of House of Representatives, Kogi State House of Assembly, Commissioners, Local Government Chairmanship/Councillorship, and other key political appointments, Sir.
3. Our Humble Request
As we approach future elections and political appointments, we passionately appeal to Your Excellency, as the father of all, to:
a. Encourage and support the emergence of competent Christian candidates from Kogi Central for the House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats.
b. Ensure equitable consideration for Christians in the allocation of Councillorship positions and Local Government appointments across the five LGAs in Kogi Central.
c. Reflect religious balance in other state elective and appointive offices, so that Christians can also partake in the dividends of democracy and contribute their quota to governance at all levels.

We wish to assure Your Excellency that the Christian community in Kogi Central remains committed to the peace, unity, and progress of our dear state. We will continue to pray for you, support your administration’s laudable programs, and mobilize our people for the continued success of your government.
