Kalu Debunks Rumours on Tinubu’s Health, Backs Tough Economic Reforms
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has dismissed reports claiming that President Bola Tinubu is hospitalised in the United Kingdom, insisting the President is in good health and only taking some rest.
Kalu, who said he spoke with Tinubu within the last 12 hours, described the rumours as false. Speaking from his residence in Maryland, USA, in a video shared on Facebook, the former Abia governor urged Nigerians and politicians to stop spreading misinformation.
“Anybody can be tired or choose not to go out. I spoke with the President barely 12 hours ago, and he is fine. He is engaging with international leaders, preparing for a trip to Japan with a stopover in Brazil for a state visit,” Kalu said.
On the economy, the Senate Committee Chairman on South East Development Commission admitted Tinubu’s reforms are tough on citizens but insisted they are necessary to put the country on a path of growth.
“I know Nigerians are suffering, and the President knows it too. He sympathises with the people, but these policies are a bitter pill we must swallow. They will reposition Nigeria from a consumption to a production-driven economy,” he noted.
Kalu disclosed that while in Maryland, he had discussions with US Congress members, as well as officials from the IMF and World Bank, who assured him that Nigeria’s economy remained stable.
Drawing parallels with Brazil, he said the South American country once endured similar hardship but emerged stronger, adding that Tinubu’s close ties with Brazilian President Lula da Silva would benefit Nigeria.
“We used to give away too much for free, and it wasn’t helping our economy. Tinubu is changing that. His policies may be painful today, but they will secure a better tomorrow,” Kalu stressed.
