Just in: Imo lawmaker, Arthur Egwim, dies in Lagos

An Imo State lawmaker, Arthur Egwim, has died in Lagos following a surgery for an undisclosed ailment.

Egwim, who was the representative of the Ideato North State Constituency in the Imo state House of Assembly, died on Monday.

A statement on Tuesday signed by the Speaker of the House, Emeka Nduka (APC Ehime Mbano), confirmed the incident.

He said, “With a heavy heart, but total submission to the will of God, we, the members of Imo State House of Assembly, wish to announce the death of one of our own, a ranking parliamentarian of note and a strong voice in IMHA, Rt. Hon Barr Innocent Arthur Egwim, who until his death represented Ideato State Constituency, and whose sudden death took place on Monday, the 27th March, 2023 from a brief illness.”

The speaker further noted that his death would create a vacuum in the house as he was one of the house’s “finest and best brains” and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.

Egwim was first elected into the eighth assembly in 2015 and had served as its chief whip.

He contested for the House of Representatives seat in the just-concluded National Assembly elections on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) but was unsuccessful.
