June 12: Tinubu Confers National Honour on Yar’Adua, Abiola, Humphrey Nwosu

In a historic nod to Nigeria’s democratic journey, President Bola Tinubu used his June 12 Democracy Day address to pay tribute to key figures of the country’s pro-democracy movement, conferring national honours on the late MKO Abiola, former NEC chairman Humphrey Nwosu, and others.
Speaking before a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized the importance of remembering those who paved the way for Nigeria’s democratic resilience.
“As we commemorate twenty-six years of uninterrupted democracy, it is fitting to recognize the courage and sacrifices of those who dared to challenge tyranny and uphold the people’s will,” he stated.
Among the honourees was Kudirat Abiola, who received a posthumous national honour (CFR) for her role as a leading voice in the June 12 pro-democracy struggle. Channels TV
