“It started three months into his tenure,” Buba Galadima reveals actual reason behind rift
A chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has revealed that the crisis currently rocking the party and its fallout with the Kano State Government began barely three months into Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s tenure.
Speaking during a media interview on Friday, Galadima said the misunderstanding did not emerge suddenly, contrary to public perception, but had been brewing quietly shortly after the governor assumed office.
According to him, early disagreements over governance style, political appointments and control of party structures laid the foundation for the prolonged internal crisis that has since escalated into open confrontation.
“It started about three months into his tenure. People may think this is something new, but the issues have been there from the beginning,” Galadima said.
He explained that repeated efforts to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and resolve internal differences were unsuccessful, as mutual trust between key actors steadily eroded.
Galadima also alleged that external political interests exploited the internal cracks within the NNPP, worsening divisions and weakening party cohesion in Kano State.
The NNPP stalwart maintained that the situation could have been avoided if early warnings and advice from party elders had been heeded, stressing that internal democracy and constant dialogue remain essential for party stability.
The crisis within the NNPP has recently intensified amid speculations of defections and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly in Kano, one of the party’s strongest political bases.
