IPI Names DSS Director-General as ‘Friend of the Media’
The International Press Institute (IPI) has formally recognised the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), as a “Friend of the Media”, honouring him for what the organisation described as his consistent support for press freedom and constructive engagement with journalists.
The announcement was made during an IPI event where the institute highlighted the DSS boss’s collaborative approach in handling security-media relations, particularly his efforts to maintain open communication channels with news organisations while balancing national security concerns.
IPI leadership noted that the recognition aims to strengthen cooperation between security agencies and the media, stressing that both institutions play critical roles in sustaining democracy.
The DSS Director-General, in his remarks, expressed appreciation for the honour and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to protecting journalists and ensuring a safe operating environment for media practitioners across the country.
Media stakeholders at the event welcomed the development, describing it as a positive step toward reducing tensions and fostering mutual respect between security operatives and the press.
