Insecurity: Yoruba Youths Council (YYC) eulogies President Donald Trump’s intervention

The Yoruba Youths Council (YYC), the umbrella body representing the collective interests, aspirations, and welfare of Yoruba youths across Nigeria and the diaspora, hereby issues this press statement to unequivocally commend and eulogise the decisive intervention of the President of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump, in the ongoing global fight against terrorism, particularly as it concerns the security challenges confronting Nigeria.

The YYC notes with deep appreciation President Trump’s bold, firm, and unambiguous stance against international terrorism and extremist violence, including actions and directives that have directly or indirectly strengthened counter-terrorism efforts in Africa and Nigeria. According to the National President of the YYC, Prince Ayodele Gbologe, “At a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with insurgency, banditry, kidnappings, and transnational terror networks, such strong leadership and clear commitment to global security send a powerful message that terrorism will not be tolerated anywhere in the world.”

He added, “Yoruba youths, like millions of Nigerians, have borne the painful consequences of insecurity—loss of innocent lives, destruction of communities, economic disruption, fear, and the shrinking of opportunities for young people.” The YYC therefore views President Trump’s intervention and hardline posture against terrorist organisations as a significant morale booster to nations under siege by violent extremism. It reinforces the principle that terrorism is a global menace requiring decisive global cooperation, not silence or appeasement.

The Council further acknowledges that President Trump’s actions have demonstrated the importance of intelligence sharing, military cooperation, and strategic deterrence in confronting terror groups that operate across borders and exploit weak enforcement environments. We believe that such interventions, when aligned with respect for national sovereignty and civilian protection, are crucial to dismantling terror networks and restoring peace.

The National President of the YYC, Prince Ayodele Gbologe, stayed that, “YYC uses this opportunity to call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to fully maximise international partnerships, including with the United States and other allies, to decisively end terrorism in all its forms.” We urge Nigerian authorities to strengthen intelligence capacity, secure national borders, cut off terror financing, and ensure that those who sponsor, protect, or sympathise with terrorists are identified and brought to justice without fear or favour.

We also remind the international community that the battle against terrorism must go beyond military action. Addressing youth unemployment, poverty, illiteracy, injustice, and bad governance remains central to achieving sustainable peace.

The YYC reiterates its long-standing position that empowering youths through education, skills development, and inclusive governance is one of the most potent tools against radicalisation and violent extremism.

In eulogising President Donald Trump’s intervention, the Yoruba Youths Council stands firmly on the side of peace, justice, and security for all Nigerians, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or region. We pray that such decisive global leadership will inspire renewed commitment from Nigeria’s political leadership to end insecurity and guarantee the safety of lives and property.

The Yoruba Youths Council remains resolute in its advocacy for a secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria where young people can thrive without fear. We seize this opportunity to notify President Donald Trump that we as well stand against Sharia in the South West as Yoruba Youths.

Signed:
Prince Ayodele Gbologe, National President,
Yoruba Youths Council (YYC)
