Ijebu/Remo Agenda Demands Direct Primaries.

Our attention has been drawn to a meeting attended by some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ogun East on Saturday at the Government house, Abeokuta where they endorsed the consensus gubernatorial candidate in Ogun West, Hon. Abdukadir Akinlade.

We wish to state categorically that the said meeting was not in line with the position of Ijebu/Remo Agenda and therefore dissociate ourselves from the selfish and hasty resolution.

The Ijebu/Remo Agenda, comprising notable leaders and elders of the party, maintains the collective resolve of the good people of Ogun East to put forward a consensus candidate from the zone who will be presented for primary election that would lead to the emergence of the Ogun APC gubernatorial candidate.

The Ijebu/Remo Agenda had, in its wisdom, endorsed an aspirant in the person of Otunba Bimbo Ashiru to contest along with whoever emerges from the other zone long before the announcement of Hon. Akinlade.

It is our belief that this is in tune with modern day democracy and the best way to ensure the emergence of a sellable candidate that can win the general election in the State.

We hereby view the development as unfortunate, overzealous and  desperate attempt to rewrite history and

shortchange the Ijebu/Remo division which last tasted power in 2011 by extending the rule of Egba/Yewa division beyond 2019.

We would always revert to our unshakeable stand that it is the turn of the people of Ogun East to run for governorship election going by established historical fact where power had always been rotated between the Egba/Yewa and Ijebu/Remo divisions of the State.

We again reiterate that this does not in any wisdom represent the collective resolve of the Ogun East Senatorial District which has been in the forefront in the clamour for emergence of party candidate from Ogun East.

Again, we demand, in the spirit of democracy and internal democracy which has been the hallmark of the APC, a level playing field where all aspirants go into direct primaries to enable the people choose who to represent them at various levels of elective posts.

This is not antagonistic against party constitution as we believe in the political sagacity of Governor Ibikunle and the leadership of the APC to allow all members to partake in the constitutional electoral process by putting the best foot forward in the presentation of candidates devoid of unwarranted divisions within the party.

We state, for the umpteenth time that we are ready to conform with the outcome of direct primaries at all levels of elective posts and would not dump the party for any reason(s) when democratically elected candidates emerge.
