IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT) arrest gun running syndicate in Edo

THE Inspector-General of Police Special Unit Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has smashed a gun running gang in Benin City, the Edo State capital after a thorough search in the hideouts.

Police sources revealed that the criminal suspects namely; Sunday Omoregie, Frank Obadiaru, Osazee Orowe, Courage Omoregie, Elvis Paul, Festus Obadiaru, Douglas Ehigiator, Jolly Oriakhi, Osato Orowe, Felix Iyangbe were arrested at Idogbo, Upper Sokponba in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state.

Others at large as the time of filling this report are Godday igbinosa, Ero Isaac and others who are yet to be identified. The criminal suspects were arrested based on a tip that the suspects were planning an attack on Ute community, in Uhuonwonde Local Government Area, who are currently in charge of managing the community affairs to overthrow them.

“These suspects are our brothers here and we’re deeply in shock that they have been harbouring criminal intentions to harm us until they were arrested.

“We understand that their sponsors have approached the police with huge some of money to release them on bail.

“In fact, we have it on good authority that some of them have been granted bail.“How can criminal suspects with pump action guns, double barrel, berretta pistol and AK47 rifles be granted bail without prosecution,” one of the community youth leaders quipped.

Our sources at the IRT office confirmed that the arrested suspects were found with double berretta guns, pump action, barretter pistol.Our correspondent was subsequently informed that a few of the criminal suspects who were release on bail summoned the Ohenvbu of Ute Community to the Benin Monarch Palace for a truce only to set his house ablaze before he returned back to the community.

Speaking with the Ohenvbu of Ute Community, Chief Osagie Idehen over the unfortunate burning of his house appealed to the security agencies to come to his aid.“This same group of people killed my father, Chief Obasuyi Idehen, the Ebalogban of Benin Kingdom and the Ohenvbu of Ute Community in controversial circumstances.“We’re waiting patiently for the police authority to ensure that everyone of them is brother to book in the interests of peace”, Chief of Osagie said.
