IGP Disu Seeks International Support for Police Reforms
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has engaged international development partners and diplomatic stakeholders in a strategic dialogue aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
The meeting, held on Tuesday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, was organised in collaboration with the Police Reform Secretariat (PRS) and brought together representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Women, the British High Commission, and the governments of Germany, Spain, and Slovakia, alongside other development organisations and institutional stakeholders.
Speaking during the engagement, the IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to building a modern, professional, intelligence-led, and accountable policing institution anchored on the rule of law, respect for human rights, and community partnership.
According to him, the reform agenda is focused on transforming the Force into a technology-driven and citizen-focused institution capable of effectively addressing contemporary security challenges across the country.
The Head of the Police Reform Secretariat, Olu Ogunsakin, highlighted major pillars of the ongoing reforms, including legal and policy reforms, election security management, leadership development, stakeholder engagement, oversight systems, and initiatives aimed at strengthening public trust in the police.
Ogunsakin stressed the importance of international collaboration in ensuring sustainable policing reforms and enhancing institutional capacity within the Force.
The Inspector-General further reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to transparency, professionalism, discipline, and measurable reforms in line with global best practices while addressing Nigeria’s unique security realities.
