Gunmen abduct Anglican Bishop, wife in Oyo

Gunmen have kidnapped a Bishop of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd Oluwaseun Aderogba of Jebba Diocese in Kwara State, and his wife.

The Bishop and his wife were abducted on the Ogbomoso-Oyo expressway on Sunday evening.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, on Monday.

Osifeso stated that the couple were kidnapped alongside the Bishop’s driver while fixing their vehicle which developed a mechanical fault on a journey from Jebba, Kwara State to Yewa in Ogun State.

He noted that the incident occurred around the isolated portion of the Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway.

The police spokesperson added that the Bishop’s chaplain, Rev. Adekunle Adeluwa, who was with the victims, reported to the command through an incidented report at Atiba Divisional Police Headquarters, Oyo town about 8:30pm.

Osifeso noted that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations of the command was in charge of the rescue operation that had commenced since 9pm on Sunday.

“All the tactical teams of the Command Anti-Kidnapping squad, Ambush Squad, Puff Adder, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) and Conventional Police personnel along with local hunters and vigilantes are all involved in the rescue operations,” he added.

The police spokesperson added that the discreet investigation led by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) was also embarked upon to ensure that the victims are rescued unhurt.
